SCOTLAND SUPPORTERS WIN BOSTON RED SOX 50/50 RAFFLE

THU 18 JUN 2026 US SPORTS

Four Scotland supporters from Bonnyrigg, Midlothian won the Boston Red Sox 50/50 raffle, becoming what the club believes to be the first UK winners of the draw. Peter and Paul Innes, a father-and-son pair, and John and Ross Henderson, another father-and-son duo, purchased a $40 ticket on Sunday as the Red Sox played the Texas Rangers. The four men discovered they had won $21,353.80 (£16,132.90) after checking their number repeatedly. Half the winnings, $10,676.90 (£8,066.45), went to the Red Sox Foundation, with the remainder presented to the men before a Red Sox match against the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday.

The four attended a Scotland Celebration night at Fenway Park the evening after Scotland's national football team defeated Haiti in a World Cup match. Staff at the Red Sox stated they could not recall a previous winner from the United Kingdom and reported difficulty locating records of recent international winners. The supporters travelled to Boston as part of what was described as the Tartan Army's attendance at the iconic baseball venue.

The trip marked a significant moment for the group, with one of the men describing the experience as surreal and noting the journey had been memorable for all four participants and their families.
