VANCE CITES VIEW APPEARANCE AS NEGOTIATION EXPERIENCE

THU 18 JUN 2026 INTERNATIONAL

Vice President JD Vance stated at a news conference on Thursday that his recent appearance on The View equipped him for diplomatic negotiations with Iran. Vance appeared on the television programme to promote his new book, where he was questioned by Joy Behar and other co-hosts. He characterised the interview as evidence of his ability to handle "hostile, high-stakes negotiations". Vance remarked that Behar presented a tougher challenge than Iranian negotiators would likely present.

According to Vance's account, a 60-day ceasefire with Iran commenced on Thursday following an overnight peace agreement signed by President Donald Trump and Tehran officials. Vance stated that critics had questioned what diplomatic experience he possessed for such negotiations. He used his television appearance to respond to those questions, framing the interview as a test of his negotiating capabilities. One View co-host told Vance during a commercial break that he carried a "good vibe" for a Republican, though stated she would not vote for him.

Vance's comments linked a media appearance to substantive foreign policy negotiations at a time when diplomatic talks with Iran remain a stated priority for the Trump administration. The vice president indicated that the ceasefire agreement represented progress in those negotiations. The extent to which the ceasefire will hold and what diplomatic discussions may follow remained unspecified in Vance's public remarks.
