STEVEN LYONS EXTRADITION BID REJECTED BY AMSTERDAM COURT
Steven Lyons, described by Spanish authorities as head of Scotland's dominant crime group, has lost his legal challenge against extradition from the Netherlands to Spain. An Amsterdam court ruled that Lyons must face charges related to drug trafficking, money laundering and violent crime in Spain. Lyons was arrested in Bali in March under a European Warrant issued by Spain's Guardia Civil and subsequently deported to the Netherlands, as Spain has no extradition agreement with Indonesia. The court found no grounds to block his extradition, and Lyons has been told he cannot appeal the decision.
Spanish police previously stated they had "dismantled" a criminal drugs gang led by members of the Lyons family. In March, coordinated raids took place across multiple countries, carried out by officers in Scotland and Spain in collaboration with the UK's National Crime Agency, following a years-long investigation into serious organised crime. The operation resulted in 14 arrests across four countries and led to the seizure of electronic devices, cash, company documents, high-end watches and cryptocurrency wallets. Spanish authorities said the Lyons gang had developed a criminal network across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, using shell companies and international financial transactions to manage millions of euros from drug trafficking.
According to Spain's Civil Guard, the Lyons operation involved 18 raids, predominantly on the Costa Del Sol and Barcelona. The statement described the group as "one of the most significant players in contemporary European organised crime", operating across Spain, the United Arab Emirates and Turkey. Lyons is expected to be extradited to Spain shortly. He is noted as the head of the Lyons group, which has been involved in a lengthy feud with the rival Daniel group in Scotland.
