WAREHOUSE FIRE NEAR LOS ANGELES TRIGGERS SHELTER-IN-PLACE ORDERS

THU 18 JUN 2026

A warehouse fire broke out in the Boyle Heights neighbourhood near downtown Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon, prompting local authorities to issue shelter-in-place orders for residents. Los Angeles firefighters were dispatched to the facility at approximately 2:30 p.m. The blaze engulfed the building's roof, which was fitted with solar panels, sending dark smoke into the air. Authorities issued alerts warning of hazardous materials in the vicinity and advised residents to seal their homes by closing windows, doors and vents, switching off air conditioning, and moving people and pets indoors.

According to Jennifer Middleton, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department, initial concerns that the fire might ignite an ammonia line were resolved. By late afternoon, crews had extinguished the roof fire and began entering the building to assess interior damage. Online records identify the structure as a cold storage warehouse operated by Lineage Logistics, a company specialising in the transport of frozen and temperature-controlled goods. The facility spans 491,000 square feet of storage space. Lineage Logistics did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The incident prompted a significant emergency response from local fire services and triggered precautionary health and safety measures across the surrounding area. Authorities maintained shelter-in-place orders whilst crews worked to contain and fully extinguish the fire. The facility's size and operational purpose meant the incident carried potential implications for regional cold chain logistics operations.
