GUARDIAN TESTS 17 POWER BANKS FOR SMARTPHONE AND LAPTOP CHARGING

A technology reviewer has evaluated 17 power bank models to identify the most suitable options for charging portable electronic devices. The tested models included products from Belkin, Anker, Cuktech, Iniu, Ugreen, Bluetti, Acer and EcoFlow. The review identified the Belkin BoostCharge 10k with integrated cable, the Anker Nano A1638, and the Belkin UltraCharge Pro laptop power bank 27K as top performers in different categories.

Power banks function as portable charging solutions that connect to compatible devices via connections such as USB-C and USB-A. Most models charge smartphones and smaller gadgets including fitness trackers and earbuds, whilst certain units can charge larger devices such as laptops and portable speakers. Larger portable power stations can charge high-voltage appliances and suit uses including camping, garden parties and situations where mains power is unavailable. Compatibility between a power bank and a device depends on the power bank's output specifications and connection types.

The reviewer has assessed technology products since the mid-2010s and regularly uses portable battery-powered devices whilst working in libraries, cafes and on public transport. The assessment recommends that prospective buyers check the specifications of any power bank against their own devices before purchase to ensure compatibility. This approach helps users select a model suited to their particular charging requirements.
