GEORGE PICKENS ATTENDS COWBOYS MINICAMP AFTER MISSING VOLUNTARY WORKOUTS

WED 17 JUN 2026 US SPORTS

George Pickens reported to the Dallas Cowboys' mandatory minicamp on 16 June after skipping the franchise's voluntary offseason workout programme earlier in the month. The wide receiver faced potential fines totalling $107,911 had he missed the mandatory session. Pickens was placed on the franchise tag by the Cowboys at $27.3 million for the 2026 season after the club declined to offer a long-term contract.

Former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho assessed Pickens' attendance strategy on the Speakeasy podcast, stating the player prioritised financial protection over participation. Acho noted that Pickens attended minicamp to avoid fines whilst signalling his reluctance to engage fully in team activities. The approach mirrors precedent set by other players, including Jacoby Brissett of the Cardinals, who held out during offseason programmes and only reported to mandatory minicamp to escape penalties.

Pickens told reporters at mandatory minicamp on Tuesday that he does not intend to hold out or hold in during training camp. The player indicated he harbours no disappointment regarding the absence of a long-term contract offer. His stated commitment to attend training camp suggests the dispute with the Cowboys organisation, if one exists, remains unresolved regarding contract terms.
