LIVERPOOL TUTOR JAILED FOR HELPING OVER 100 STUDENTS CHEAT IN EXAMS

WED 17 JUN 2026 CRIME

Shahid Adnan has been jailed for three years after helping more than 100 university students cheat in their examinations. Operating from his home in Liverpool, Adnan completed coursework and sat online tests on behalf of students across the United Kingdom in exchange for payment. The scheme generated substantial sums, with earnings reported between £300,000 and £2.4 million. Adnan worked as a delivery driver whilst conducting the tutoring operation.

The cheating operation involved Adnan taking online examinations for students and completing their coursework assignments. Students paid Adnan fees to undertake these academic tasks, effectively purchasing their examination results. The scheme operated across multiple universities throughout the UK. The part-time tutor's activities went undetected for a period, allowing him to accumulate significant financial gains through the fraudulent arrangement.

The conviction addresses widespread concerns about academic integrity in higher education institutions. Online learning systems have created opportunities for third parties to complete assessments intended for individual students. Universities have increasingly relied on remote examination formats, particularly following the COVID-19 pandemic. The case demonstrates the enforcement of academic fraud regulations and the criminal consequences for those who facilitate cheating at university level.
