GRAMMY-WINNING SINGER TALAY RILEY DIES FROM STAB WOUNDS
Talay Riley, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, died from sharp force trauma to his torso, an inquest opening heard. Riley's death was confirmed on 7 June after Metropolitan Police attended an address in Silvertown, east London, following reports of a stabbing. A post-mortem examination determined that Riley sustained fatal injuries to his chest or abdomen caused by a sharp, pointed instrument. Riley, whose real name was Mark Orabiyi, was 35 years old at the time of his death.
Riley collaborated with artists including Dua Lipa, Jessie J, and Usher throughout his music career. Three people were arrested on suspicion of murder on 5 June. A 27-year-old man was released on bail pending further inquiries, whilst a 24-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman were released with no further action after questioning. Area coroner Nadia Persaud stated that she would not set directions for the inquest whilst the police investigation remains ongoing.
Ms Persaud confirmed that Riley's family has been made 'interested persons' in the inquest proceedings, allowing them to make submissions and question witnesses at any future hearing. The coroner indicated she would suspend the inquest should charges be brought. Riley's family released a statement describing him as a 'beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend' whose presence touched many lives. Several musicians, including Craig David and Nina Nesbitt, paid public tribute to Riley following his death.
