ROMEO BECKHAM FINED £440 FOR USING PHONE WHILE DRIVING
Romeo Beckham was fined £440 and received three penalty points after being caught using his mobile phone whilst driving his Porsche 911 in Westminster last September. A police officer observed Beckham with both hands on his phone rather than the steering wheel whilst the vehicle was stationary at a red light. An unrestrained dog sat on the passenger's lap during the incident, with the female passenger also using her phone. Westminster Magistrates' Court found Beckham guilty of being a driver not in a position to have proper control of his vehicle.
In addition to the fine and penalty points, Beckham was ordered to pay court costs and a victim surcharge. The officer noted that Beckham appeared distracted whilst holding his phone with both hands. The passenger travelling with Beckham was similarly engaged with her mobile device at the time of the traffic stop. No further details regarding the passenger's identity were disclosed.
The incident occurred nearly seven years after Sir David Beckham, Romeo's father, received a driving ban for a comparable mobile phone offence whilst driving. The case reinforces ongoing enforcement action against mobile phone use at the wheel, which remains an offence under UK driving law. Romeo Beckham's conviction adds to a series of high-profile prosecutions for distracted driving in recent years.
