FORMULA ONE TARGETS NET ZERO EMISSIONS BY 2030

WED 17 JUN 2026 F1/MOTORSPORT

Formula One has outlined measures to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030, including a shift from air to sea freight for transporting equipment and increased investment in sustainable aviation fuel. The organisation has also revised its racing schedule as part of the decarbonisation programme. These steps form part of a broader strategy to reduce the environmental impact of the sport's global operations.

The freight logistics overhaul represents a significant change to F1's supply chain management. Switching cargo transport from air to sea reduces carbon emissions substantially, though it requires longer lead times for equipment delivery to race venues. Simultaneously, F1 is increasing funding for sustainable aviation fuel development, which can reduce lifecycle carbon emissions compared to conventional jet fuel. Schedule revisions allow the sport to optimise travel routes and reduce unnecessary journeys between race locations.

The 2030 net zero target aligns Formula One with wider global climate commitments and reflects growing pressure on major sporting organisations to demonstrate environmental responsibility. Implementation of these measures will require co-ordination across teams, suppliers, broadcasters and host nations. The sport will continue to monitor progress against these targets as the programme develops.
