THREE ARRESTED AFTER £139M CANNABIS SEIZURE IN SOUTH WALES

TUE 16 JUN 2026 CRIME

Three people from south Wales have been arrested following the recovery of 12 tonnes of cannabis with an estimated street value of £139m. The seizure occurred on 6 May when police recovered the drug from containers in transit to Southampton Port on the south coast of England. The cannabis had been imported from Canada to the UK. Two men and one woman, aged in their 30s and 40s, were arrested on Tuesday morning at addresses in Merthyr Tydfil, Ebbw Vale and Abertillery in Blaenau Gwent.

The investigation began after the Canada Border Services Agency intercepted a shipment of cannabis destined for the United Kingdom. Investigators subsequently identified two containers holding 12 tonnes of cannabis stored in 1,200 boxes. The South West Regional Organised Unit executed warrants at the three suspects' homes in south Wales on 16 June. All three individuals were arrested on suspicion of facilitating the importations.

The three suspects remain in police custody following their arrests. The seizure represents a record for cannabis recovered in this operation. The investigation demonstrates co-operation between Canadian and British authorities in tackling drug trafficking. No further details regarding the suspects or the ongoing investigation have been released.
