CORENTIN MOUTET FACES ATP FINE AFTER SWEARING SEVEN TIMES ON BBC TELEVISION
French tennis player Corentin Moutet used profanity repeatedly during a live BBC television interview at Queen's Club following his three-set victory over Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard at the HSBC Championships. Moutet, ranked 36th in the world, swore seven times during the post-match discussion with interviewer Jenny Drummond. The broadcaster issued immediate apologies to viewers, with Drummond pleading with Moutet to refrain from further language before cutting the segment short.
When questioned about Mpetshi Perricard's 142mph second serve that saved a match point, Moutet responded with profanity. Despite Drummond's request for "no F-bombs", Moutet continued to swear when asked a follow-up question. Studio presenter Clare Balding subsequently apologised, referencing Moutet's stated motto "Chaos makes the muses" and his associated tattoo. Co-presenter Annabel Croft described his conduct as "appalling".
Moutet earned approximately £33,000 for his tournament victory but faces a substantial ATP fine as a result of the incident. The ATP declined to comment immediately on the disciplinary action expected to follow. The men's tournament at Queen's Club began on Monday, with the women's event having concluded the previous week.
